What home care includes (and doesn’t)
Scope clarity reduces stress. This page is meant to prevent surprises by clearly outlining what non-medical in-home care typically includes—and what it typically does not.
Commonly included (non-medical)
- Personal care (ADLs): bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, hygiene routines
- Mobility support: supervised walking, safe transfers, fall-risk routines
- Meal support: meal prep, hydration reminders, basic kitchen clean-up
- Light housekeeping: laundry, tidying, changing linens, keeping walk lanes clear
- Companionship: engagement, routine support, reducing isolation
- Non-clinical reminders: e.g., medication reminders as appropriate (not administration)
- Post-hospital routine support: discharge-day help, first-week stabilization, family updates
Typically not included (or requires a clinical provider)
- Skilled nursing tasks (wound care, injections, IVs, clinical assessments)
- Medical decision-making or diagnosis
- Physical therapy/occupational therapy (licensed clinician scope)
- Heavy housekeeping (deep cleaning, moving furniture)
How to avoid surprises
- Describe the hardest moments (showers, transfers, nighttime, stairs).
- Confirm the schedule (days/times and minimum shift expectations).
- Share mobility restrictions (post-hospital/surgery).
- Clarify what “success” means: safety, independence, family relief, routine stability.
If you need skilled nursing or therapy, we can coordinate alongside licensed providers while we stabilize day-to-day routines at home.
